Welcome to the world of Joombie Chuckie!
Joombie Chuckie is more than a character — he represents culture, imagination, storytelling, and the living spirit of the Moko Jumbie tradition. Through books, performances, education, and creativity, Joombie Chuckie inspires children and families to stand tall, celebrate who they are, and connect with the rich traditions of Caribbean culture.
Behind Joombie Chuckie is Charles Forest Watts Jr., a cultural artist, Moko Jumbie performer, instructor, mask maker, costume designer, and creator born and raised in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Growing up in the Virgin Islands, Charles was surrounded by music, Carnival celebrations, art, and the powerful presence of Moko Jumbies towering above crowds. As a child, he looked up at them with wonder. They felt larger than life — powerful figures that carried mystery, excitement, and spirit.
As a youth, Charles began learning the art of stilt walking and quickly discovered that being a Moko Jumbie meant much more than standing high above the ground. The tradition required patience, courage, balance, discipline, and dedication. Every step became a lesson and to Charles, Moko Jumbies are not simply performers. They are storytellers. They are guardians. They are symbols of strength, celebration, and cultural identity.
Today, through Joombie Chuckie, Charles continues sharing that tradition with younger generations through books, educational programs, performances, and creative storytelling experiences designed to inspire children to dream big and stand tall.
The Joombie Chuckie's mission is simply to preserve, convey and teach the traditions and culture of the Moko Jumbies. Giving inspiration to the future generations because culture is not meant to be forgotten. Culture is meant to live!
